Poor Baby

It's tough to be little.

It's bad enough that he has his first cold,
but the fact that i gave it to him really sucks the big one.

I didn't have the heart to get him all geared up for Trendy Tuesday this week,
but hopefully we'll be back next week with some super stylin' styles!
(thanks to all for the cool stuff - more on that later...)
Feel better soon my little bit!

Guest Post - Deanna from Delirious Rhapsody!

While I'm on vacation I asked one of my favorite bloggers to do a guest post for me,
and was so happy Deanna obliged!
Head over to her blog and show her some love,
she's always entertaining and her boys are the funniest little dudes....

Hi! I'm Deanna from Delirious Rhapsody. I'm a 26 year old stay at home mom of two little boys, Gage Hendrix, who will be four in July, and Owsley Duncan, who is six months. I'm an avid crafter and baker, who loves reading, music, camping, my husband, and sleeping. I collect gnomes and have over 120, and they all have names. I started my blog as a way to keep up with my mother in law who lives in Arizona. (We live in Alabama.) I enjoyed blogging so much that it's come a big hobby of mine. I find humor in my daily life, and that's generally what I write about. I definitely don't sugarcoat anything, and I'm extremely sarcastic. I'd love it if you would come by and say hello sometime!

When Gillian approached me about doing a guest post while she was away on vacation, I was flattered. Then I was stumped. I know I post a lot of my daily happenings on MY blog. But you don't know me and might not care how my day was. And then I remembered Gillian's feature, "Artsy is NOT Fartsy. I adore this feature! I love how Gillian makes cute and functional things for her house, without spending a fortune. So I thought I would repost an entry from a feature I occasionally do on my blog, called "Common Cents." It's basically along the same line as Gillian's feature, so I think it will fit right in!

Here goes.....
We became a family of four and bought a new house within a span of two weeks. (Yep, we moved with a newborn. Fun stuff!) Needless to say, we don't have a lot of extra money to spend right
now. So I've become a pro at cutting corners.

I've decided to start a new feature, called 'Common Cents.'
It's focus will be trying to cut out spending extra cash on things that aren't essentials.

Today....baby leggings!

I LOVE baby leggings. They make diaper changes so incredibly easy, not to mention the fact that they are super cute on both little boys and girls. But they can get expensive, especially when you want different pairs to mix and match with all of baby's many outfits.
So why not make some yourself?

For this project, you'll need three things: scissors, tall socks, and a baby.

039 (Small)redo

Cut the sock off at the heel.

040 (Small)

And....SHAZAM! Instant leggings for your little.
047 (Small)
I bought these socks on clearance for 99 cents. That definitely beats 10 bucks a pop!
And you're also left with little bootie socks for yourself, if you want! But it's up to you.
If you would rather waste money, who am I to stop you? :)

Thanks so much Deanna, Owsley looks super cute in them!
(and i am so going to the dollar store! despite what Dr. Nails says, jake so NEEDS a pair of these)

See y'all tomarrow....

Six

Happy half birthday Jake

My heart has never been so full.
It bubbles up and over and i don't care how cheesy it is.
It feels like i've known him forever,
and i can't wait to see what kind of a boy he will be tomarrow, and the next day, and the next...

It was indeed a big day : )

It's a wonderful life

i am sorry i abandoned you....

...but it was so worth it!

Fortunately the plane ride was harder on me than it was on him,
and with the exception of one woman who was terribly worried she would have to sit behind 'that baby', most of the other passengers were more than willing to help entertain our cute little dude.
I don't know what it is, he makes friends wherever he goes...

We had a great weekend in the praries,
with a beautiful wedding, gorgeous weather and my wonderful family.
It was a great honor to be the photographer on the big day,
and the photos are going to be amazing!
I took too many pics, ate too much food (dessert counts as food doesn't it?),
and had the best time introducing the Little to his western family.

And yes, i did the chicken dance,
what would a wedding be without the chicken dance?

A Marvellous Monday

The other night after i had put the little to bed,
i came downstairs to find the kitchen cleaned up after supper
and the tub cleaned up after bathtime and i marvelled.
I marvelled at the fact that i have such an amazing man who is willing to help me with all this.
He does that stuff EVERY night, and never complains.

And then i thought about the robo-vac he bought me
and the time he got someone in to help clean when i was too busy with Jake,
and all of the times he takes me shopping even when he doesn't really want to hang out in
dollarama or walmart or at the mall all day like i do...
(though i can't imagine why he doesn't)

.....and then i marvelled some more.....

Rock on Dr. Nails, you are marvellous indeed :o)

Five For Friday

Blogger seems to have crapped the bed earlier today,
and my last post about the mouse-hole seems to have been eaten by the blogger monster,
never to be seen again? ( insert words reserved for computer glitches HERE )
I'll try to re-post it later today, but it may never be the same...

In the mean time, today's post has been trapped inside my mind all day,
which i assure you is a very strange place to be, so here it is, finally.

Inspired by my hometown and home province of Calgary, Alberta;
My Five Favourites this Friday....

Stuff I Love (and miss) about Alberta!

Mountains Mountains everywhere!  Oh how i miss the Rockies...

....and snowboarding and definitely my favorite - apres ski!
( a beavertail and a bottle of beer please )

It's cool to wear cowboy hats.
Well in my head it's ALWAYS cool to wear a cowboy hat,
but out west you actually see other people besides me wearing them.  and boots too.
and those really big belt buckles.  those really rock.

The Calgary Stampede.
Yes, it definitely is a requirement to wear a cowboy hat at the Stampede.
The entire city completely loses it's mind for 10 days straight.
What more of an excuse do you need?

The endless prairies and monstrous skies that are so easy to get lost in.
I love how they stretch on forever and make me feel small.

This is my town, my province.

 It's beautiful and unique
And it will always be home to me..... i can't wait to visit!

Artsy is NOT Fartsy v.3

Tales from the Baby's Room.....

Seeing as a lot of our baby stuff was borrowed and has recently been returned for the new baby
(have I mentioned how excited I am for them?!) we had to make a few changes around here,
although I use the term 'we' loosely...

These changes included a new car seat which is awesome
because I was sooo sick of lugging that infant one around, talk about heavy!
19 lb. baby + 25 lb. car seat = mega arm muscles.
Sheesh, a man must have designed those things!  But I digress....

We also returned the changing table that was in the babe's room,
and being the type that always used it, I was left in need of a replacement.
Some women might panic, some might go out and buy one.
I, on the other hand, have Dr. Nails.
He rocks my world.

This is what we came up with:

I wish I could claim this idea as my own,
but I totally saw it somewhere, I'm not going to lie to you...
'We' (again used very loosely)  painted the mouse-hole with chalk board paint,
which I have been dying to use on something, finally!
And when we don't need the change table anymore the front trim comes off
and voila! a built in shelf in the closet.
Frickin' genius if I do say so.

And a big thank you to everyone who keeps voting for us on the top baby blogs,
we've moved up sooooo far because of you!
x's and o's!

Jet Plane Jitters

We all know that sick feeling when we see the people with the screaming baby
heading our way on a plane, when we hope to hell they don't sit anywhere in our vicinity.
Well, this time I will be the one striking fear in the hearts of my fellow passengers.

Contrary to popular belief, Jake is not the perfect baby.
Close, really really close, but not quite.

So the thought of taking him on an airplane to fly across the country is a wee bit scary.
Maybe not so much for me, but definitely for Dr. Nails,
and of course for the poor sap that gets stuck sitting next to us.
I apologize in advance whomever you are.

Do any of you have advice for travelling with a baby?
Dr. Nails' strategy is putting in his earphones and turning the volume up.
So not fair!  Help!

Photo of the Week

Week 15

This was quite the photo shoot,
between keeping the dog, my feet and the robo-vac out of the pic,
and trying to make sure the little didn't crash and burn face first into the wood...
Totally worth it :)

Happy Mothers Day!

Five For Friday

Today I have bed on my brain.
I almost even made this another 'Dear Bed' post.
Maybe it's because I don't spend near enough time in mine,
so I am living vicariously.

Either way I want to be in a beautiful bed right now:

I'll stay in any of these
(really, click this one; neat-o-ness awaits!)

Under the Apple Tree

Plant me Here

I could live Here

Any one of These please!

Pretty Pretty Pretty!  (and yes, I do know it's more than five, I just don't care)
Especially the outdoor ones, but that might be because it
WON"T STOP RAINING here.
Spring sucks... I'm ready for summer already!

And of course I wouldn't send you off into the weekend without some eye candy....

Play safe and have fun!

R2D2 or C3PO?

Did you know i spend approximately ONE WHOLE DAY every three months sweeping?
That's a whole lotta living I'm missing out on.
( and a whole lotta dog hair )

Well, thanks to Dr, Nails, ( many, many, so many thanks )
I am putting down the broom and taking back my life.

Never thought I'd see the day
I'd be happy to be replaced by a robot.
But for real? Let the robot revolution begin....
