Beat the Heat

Summer is finally here!!

and it's going to be a big one.

mr. big is big enough to do a lot of things this year, so there will be a whole lot of doing going on. 

picnic things, beach things, water game things, fun summer food things, soccer things, 

adventures and ice cream and boats oh my!

Seeing as it has taken so long to get here, we're going to have to cram it all in,

but that's okay, it will all fit...

Hope you're all this excited that the weekend's here too : )

We will be laying low around here, work and working on the house are kind of putting a cramp 

on our weekend style these days, but it's all so worth it in the end!

The Weekend

There was the discovery of pomegranates, and now there will be a flurry of delicious little red seeds 

adorning the food on our table.  This makes me happy.

There was thrifting and dollarama, two of my favorite ways to shop!

 Crappy chinese food that, despite it's crappiness, was still delicious. Does that happen to anyone else? 

There was new snow outside and new cement in the basement for playing (more on these later)!

And much crafting for the upcoming fair, and for specialized one-of-a-kind birthday presents.

 Then there was some mega fun at said birthday party, where the Little was enthralled 

with the big kids, and learned how to squeal from someone small.

Today?  Today we recover.  Laundry and extra cups of coffee and quiet.  Naps on the couch 

and the warm sound of a good old fashioned radio on in the kitchen.  Hmm, maybe something comfy and cozy on the stove...

And plenty of watching the snow fall in big beautiful flakes, hoping the sun doesn't come out

 and melt away our winter wonderland....

Finally Friday

We've got a busy weekend ahead, with food and music and friends, 

shopping and packing, and getting ready to go somewhere hot!

My western family and my eastern family all got together last weekend and rented a cottage

on the beautiful shore of Prince Edward Island.

It was awesome to hang out, cook big meals together and 

just soak in the autumn sunshine....

I may or may not have taken too many pictures (is there really such a thing?),

and there may or may not be a pee.eee.eye. part 2....

The calm before the storm...

 Last year around this time we had a hurricane blow through and steal our summer away.

Just in case, we tried to squeeze in summer stuff on the weekend....

This is us.  Dr. Nails - "we look a whole lot richer than we are..." lol.

Fortunately, except for some howling winds that continue today, Irene missed us.

Although it feels cool today on the back of the storm,

 we dearly hope our summer is still here!

A Wonderful Weekend it Was

A birthday and fathers day all in one!

I told Dr. Nails he could look at it one of two ways:

either feel totally ripped off because your holidays aren't spread out (which always sucks),

or embrace it as an extra special day and totally live in the now.

Naturally, he chose the second option : )

Somebody asked him yesterday why he didn't have kids when he was younger.

Cue the aaawwwws:  He answered "because i hadn't met Gill."  

He is truly an amazing dad and husband (to-be), and we are so lucky to have him forever.
