And then there was carpet...

And it was good.

Finally something came on time, actually ahead of time!
Now we spend time just lazing around on the carpet.

Who needs furniture?  Besides, I'm not sure couches are in the budget anymore...

But we have stairs and doors and something bouncy and soft under foot.
Seriously, comfy couches?  Way overrated.

And at last, something in the baby's room.
Just over two weeks to go.
It's kind of a race, at this point, between Dr. Nails and the Baby.
( My money's on the Dr. )

And this:

This is just for fun.
The Hannah Dog absolutely LOVES the new carpet,
she has some serious traction on that stuff.

Tuning in Tuning out

They say once a baby is born it will respond to certain songs or sounds it heard in utero,
such as the theme song to say, Desperate Housewives.
I guess it makes sense, seeing as those sounds remind it of when it was
tucked in safe and warm in mama's belly.

Dr. Nails has been onto this theory for some time now,
playing an interesting array of music for the baby including - but not limited to -
Metallica, Steve Earl, and Rage Against the Machine.

Now, while I may occasionally appreciate a rousing rendition of 'Guitar town' or
'Tweeter and the Monkey Man',  I can't help but wonder what sort of long-lasting effects this
kind of music may have on our unborn child.
Poor Baby.

So, in an attempt to salvage the poor things ears and perhaps it's taste in music as well,
I have finally decided to take matters into my own hands.

An experiment gone awry?
Perhaps, but I guess only time will tell,
we'll see what this kid is like as a teenager and then point fingers.

In the near future though I think I may insist on music a little more age - appropriate,
something more along the lines of Neil Young, or maybe Tom Petty.
We just might even have to re-learn the words to 'the wheels on the bus'.
Or is that a song you just make up as you go?
( I don't think the baby will care about the words anyways : )

Editor's Note:

For those of you upset about the positioning of the dresser drawer in the previous post,
my apologies, I was not really aware that there was a protocol to that sort of thing,
I just figured on the bottom the baby wouldn't have as far to fall....

Pondering Retirement

It's a whole new world when you no longer have a schedule,
so many doors suddenly swing open for you.

Behind door number 1:
The Nap.

Now the nap is a very special thing;
what was once enjoyed only on rainy weekend afternoons
can now be had any time of the day or night.

Behind door number 2:
The Book.

Another enjoyable past time that was previously reserved for the weekend,
or tuesday night when there is nothing on TV worth watching.
Now the act of reading can be enjoyed at one's leisure.

And door number 3?
The Freedom.

Being able to go anywhere and do anything whenever one wants.
Costco on a tuesday afternoon?  No problem!
Appointment on thursday morning?  You're covered!
Coffee break?  How about right now!

Ah, I think this is something I could get used to.
Well, at the very least I am going to try to enjoy it for the next 5 weeks and 5 days,
because after that none of the above will ever be possible or easy again!

Tales from The Belly Button Files

The little Belly Button that could.......

One day little belly button, one day.  Keep trying.

These guys here at the beach really know what it's all about:

And I have decided that there is a small chance I may get more enjoyment
out of all this baby stuff than the baby will.
But just a small chance, really little.

( Thanks Grandma Beth! )

All These Things

Dr. Nails and Co. have been very busy these days,
and things are getting checked off the list.

There are things that divide us:

( aka - the walls )

Things that protect us:

( aka Dr. Nails holding up the entire ceiling!
oh - and that huge beam looks like it's doing something too ; )

Things for us to rest our weary bones on:

( aka the new furniture )

And things that bring us together:

( aka - well, you get the idea. )

And these, my friends, are all of the things that we need.....

Most of these things are perfect just the way they are.
Hopefully though I can do something about that couch : )

Hmmm...

Will the real Dr. Nails please stand up.....

Yeah, that's what I thought.

The Final Countdown

Yesterday we reached another major milestone,
another miracle in what is proving hopefully to be a long succession of miracles.
6 months!  Only 3 months left to go.
You know what that means - only 91 shopping days left!
This is better than christmas,
the only difference being that we are the only ones celebrating.
Somehow that makes it even better I think......

This is what 6 months looks like to me:

The biggest miracle of all is that I have made it this far,
with what I like to think of as minimum fuss.
Oh sure, there was the time I was reduced to a soggy mess after
spilling soil on my just swept floor,
or the time I pickled beans and they wrinkled,
which left me literally sobbing into my ice cream.

Of course there are going to be those itty bitty incidences,
I'm only female after all,
and truth be told those things just might have reduced me to tears any day of the
week even before I discovered the joys of pregnancy hormones.
Overall though I choose to look back as fondly as possible on these last 6 months,
and I have deemed them a great success.
Fortunately both Dr. Nails and my family doctor concur : )

Navel Contemplation

I believe you all have heard of my strange fascination with my
belly button these days.

Now you know why.

Vital Stats

Today was a big day.

It was what I am going to call an anniversary of sorts, a minor milestone, a miracle.
Exactly 5 months have passed, meaning there's only 4 more to go.
In four months today we are supposed to meet our little person, although if it's anything like it's mother it most certainly will not be on time.

On one hand it's exciting, exhilarating even.  Thank goodness this whole thing will soon be over, or at least I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  On the other hand, the thought that the end of the tunnel is so near is one of the most terrifying thoughts that has ever occurred to me.  There are only 122 shopping days left!
Is it time to panic yet?

Another minor milestone - Dr. Nails felt the baby for the first time today.
He said it felt like a little 'boop'.  Eloquently put Dr Nails, well done.

The total package indeed.
I just love seeding the lawn, wish it could happen more often...

Keep you guessing

I present to you the question of the year, this year that I am calling the year of the bump, or maybe i should just call it a bump year, the bump year.  Anyways, that is neither here nor there.
The real question is..... (drumroll please) ..............

OR

Now, my lovely and handsome boyfriend - to be henceforth know at his request as "Dr. Nails" -  and I have made the decision to break many hearts and not find out the answer to said question.
Instead we choose the surprise of a lifetime, and hope that it is just the beginning of the many amazing surprises to come.  I love surprises. Dr. Nails surprises me everyday, and so does my belly button.
November seems so far away!

My belly button has lost it's mind...

...or wait, maybe it's my mind that has lost the button? Should it look like this?

Those guys think they're doing all the tough stuff, but this is the REAL hard part. Growing an outie takes a lot of effort, and a lot of ice cream :)
