The calm before the storm...

Last year around this time we had a hurricane blow through and steal our summer away.
Just in case, we tried to squeeze in summer stuff on the weekend....

This is us.  Dr. Nails - "we look a whole lot richer than we are..." lol.

Fortunately, except for some howling winds that continue today, Irene missed us.
Although it feels cool today on the back of the storm,
we dearly hope our summer is still here!

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who keeps voting for us!

Nine

nine months ago we'd only just met.

nine months ago his eyes were barely open.
he didn't know who i was, and i didn't know him either,
but now i know so much more about this amazing little boy...

i know he loves books.
he whines when he's hungry, and smacks when he eats.
he is a rough and tumble kid, and loves to be hung upside down.
he gives big slobbery open-mouthed kisses.
he tries to climb me when he's tired, but hates to have naps.
his giggle is the best sound i have ever heard.
he's strong, and heavy. and my hair will attest to the strength of his grip.
his fingernails grow faster than i can cut them.
he likes to walk while you hold him up, and is a wikid fast crawler.
he likes to make noise, mostly by yelling. singing perhaps?
i know he likes food and toys and the hannah dog.
and i know he lights up so many lives.

Hemming Things In

Dr Nails has been busy shingling the house all summer,
( a long, tedious, and arduous process as we all can only imagine )
but he made time in his busy schedule the other day to build a temporary railing on the steps for us.
Jake has recently become a remarkably speedy little dude, and before i know it he's into something,
teetering on an edge, eating something off the floor or falling down.
The upstairs living room is carpeted and has beautiful views out over the bay,
so it's one of our favorite play spots in the house.

Here's what it looked like before:

Slightly precarious, don't you think?

Here's what it looks like now:

A repurposed door!
Mighty impressive Dr. Nails, considering I was expecting to be stuck looking at
an ugly piece of chip-board for the next 6 months.
It might not be a forever solution, but it's a solution nonetheless...

The rest of project 'keeping the little in one spot':

Yup, a (soon to be white) picket fence gate.
Safe and sound, and my sanity remains.

PS - I almost called this post something different, it included the word cage.
or pen, i could have used pen too. but i didn't.
I don't really like those words.

The Great Outdoors

If you recall this post, you'll remember how much i like roughing it out in the country.
And before the Little came around, Dr. Nails and i really liked to go camping too.

So last weekend we decided to go camping again, after an almost two year hiatus.
Unfortunately last year was a total write off - do you know how often a pregnant lady has to pee?
do you honestly think she really wants to pee in the woods?  a thousand times?
yeah, um, not so much.

Anyways, determined not to let having a kid cramp our style any more than it already has,
we took the plunge.  Interesting?  yup.  Restful, it was not.

But hey, we came, we saw, we kicked its ass...

Dr. Nails is the king of tarps, he rocks it every time.

fresh air, starry nights, bright sunny days, swimming, eating, laying in the grass, campfires,
fireflies, dewy mornings, pan-fried toast, marshmallows, beaches,
camp chairs, vinyl tablecloth, paper plates,
sunscreen, bug spray,
outside life

Trendy Tuesday v14

I've always been the type of girl who likes camo.
Although i don't think i have ever actually owned or wore anything camouflage in my life,
as i'm not really sure it has a place in a woman's wardrobe (come on, really?)
But you bet your ass my little boy's gonna wear camo, and lots of it!
I shall live vicariously thru him...

But seriously, the best thing about camo?
You can't tell if it's a stain or if it's supposed to look like that.
See, I'm learning.  Boo-ya!

Jake's Turn

This week - the Little Bit's favorite things to do!

disclaimer:
For some reason most of these are really not my favorite things that he does;
I prefer the snuggly moments, the times when he plays quietly by himself, the funny little noise he makes when he knows food is near, and especially those big open-mouthed kisses he's been giving me lately. sigh.

oh well, i'm guessing the word 'no' was invented for children...
'cause man oh man am i ever using it these days!

Grabbing at my sunglasses, or my hair, or my necklace....

Chasing the roomba, and hammering on it with his fists when he 'catches' it.
It's actually pretty funny watching the vaccuum go around him like he was a piece of furniture,
and it kinda occupies him for a while. hmmm, not so bad really.

Reading books in his 'outdoor playpen' - aka two benches pushed together.
I guess there's nothing really wrong with this, except that he eats the books more than reads them.
But i'm thinking you'll appreciate our ingenuity on this one.

Splashing in the Hannah Dog's water dish.
Really not my favorite - but he LOVES it.  Let's just hope Hannah doesn't lay the smack down. For real.

This is just funny. he makes me laugh ALL the time.

Trying to play his Daddy's guitar, or the huge metal bongo drum beside it.
Either of which could potentially fall on him and break, thus creating a vast musical void in the house.
oh, and it might hurt.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Old dog new tricks? You bet.

aka 'Touch Up Tuesday'

I'm very honest with the fact that i SUCK at computer stuff.
Half of the time i have no idea what i'm doing, the other half of the time the program does all the work for me.
And i'm pretty okay with that.  Though some things take more time than they should,
i DO get there eventually (hmm...story of my life?)

So i have been seeing a lot of stuff on presets in photoshop on other photographers blogs,
and finally found a few moments to figure them out.
This is one of those instances where the program does all the work, i love it when things are done for me!

i used a cute baby action from here.

It's a first attempt, and for all of you who have been after me to watermark my photos please note
the little watermark in the corner.  Like i said, i get there eventually....
Pretty nifty huh?

we're also featured today over on Jamie's Blog, go see!

Have a great day!
