Halloween Hijinks

Pumpkin carving. Seed roasting. Monster mashing.
Towing a wagon full of kids and candy through the neighbourhood on a beautiful crisp autumn night.
Chocolate. Family. And kick-ass costumes.

It was everything I, ahem, THEY ever hoped it would be...and then some.

Best Halloween yet:)

I found one other Halloween blog post for you, from many years ago.

Three

A few weeks ago my someone small turned three.

He loves to 'nuggle, saves up his kisses for me, and still gets me to kiss him better,
even though he's figured out that it doesn't actually make it go away.

somehow he's not so small anymore:)

so smart so sweet so big
so. much. love.

The Big One

Dear Emmitt,

one. whole. year.
12 months, 365 days, 82.359 sleepless nights, 3920 dirty diapers, endless loads of laundry,
countless hours and minutes and seconds of you, my little love.

the night before your first birthday, i softly kiss your head as i tuck you into your crib.
i remember the same night just one short year ago, when i had yet to lay eyes on your sweet face.

i had dug out all the old things, the jakie things.
plush blankets, baby swing. teeny tiny green and yellow clothes and shoes and jammies.
some still smelling faintly of babe, sweet.
the rickety old bassinet that has cradled so many precious heads was set up beside the bed,
i was ready. you weren't:)

you were giving me a hard time then, one year ago,
and i had already been in labour for the better part of a day.
it would be another day yet before i would get to meet you, but it was worth it.

one whole year of joy and light and excruciating love.
one whole year of you.

Two Point Five

In this house (much to dr. nails' confusion) we celebrate half birthdays.

We might not have a big party, presents and balloons,
or maybe we will, who's to say....
....but we definitely have cake, oh yes, there's always cake : )

Because it's not everyday that someone turns 2 and a half
(even though that day was ahem, last week; to say i am a little behind around here would be
 the understatement of the year.)

Happy Half Birthday to my biggest little!

Just Eat It

 The wonderful world of food...

Hmm, not so bad maybe.......
ok, how 'bout a pickle?

And remember two years ago?
Someone else started out on this food adventure.
As you can see, it's not going so well....

At least the dog is happy : )

Ice is Nice

There are defining moments in our lives.
moments when we simply know we are where we are meant to be, doing what we are supposed to be doing.
This may, or may not, have been one of those. He is, after all, only two,
whether or not he will be the next 'sid the kid' (or even like to play hockey) is yet to be determined.
Either way, the first time out on the ice is totally a big one...

Having grown up in hockey rinks both indoor and out back in Calgary, it might have been a bit of a big deal to me.
And that doesn't begin to describe how huge this was for our dear Dr. Nails,
who used to play hockey here when he was a kid,
and especially when the dads came out and practiced with their kids.

yup:  awwwwww : )
And there it is.

Happy Weekend!!!

Look Out Sidney

Someone has designs on the 'best hockey player around' title...

Training ground:

 The up-and-comer:

I'm thinking that at the rate Emmitt is growing he will be an enforcer,
whereas our slight little Jake might be more along the lines of a Gretsky type... just saying ; )
And while I have made it clear that 5am practices are NOT my department,
it will be so fun to teach these guys how to skate and watch them play!!!
Oh hockey, where have you been?!
