Trendy Tuesday v.17

At long last, the triumphant return of Trendy Tuesday!
I have been reluctant to even attempt one of these photo shoots in months,
mainly due to the fact that my model has the attention span of, well, a one-year-old.
But we gave it a (surprisingly successful) attempt yesterday....

The Hoodie Edition:

 Tractor Hoodie: Carters

Red Puppy Hoodie: Joe Fresh

Milk Truck Hoodie: Gymboree

Surprisingly the Little allowed me to do this, sitting still just long enough each time to snag a shot.
And I am happy to report that we actually have enough to do another post,
so watch out for part 2 next week!

Have a wonderful day!

A Mexican Fiesta

This year was supposed to be my year to go home for Christmas,
but my home being icy-cold-freezing-minus-37-eleven-million-degrees-before-windchill Calgary,
it was decided we should meet my family in mexico in January instead!

I do believe it was a wise decision : )

Fourteen

Fourteen Months!

Things are changing with you little one,
you're pickier with your food and aren't sleeping very well these days (much to my dismay)!
Whereas once you used to eat almost everything, now your diet seems to consist of grapes, goldfish and milk.
But hey, at least those goldfish are whole wheat ; )

And while you might not want to go to sleep at bedtime,
you have taken to sleeping in random places, like in the middle of the living room floor, or in your little tent upstairs.
Cute at the time, not so cute when i want you in your crib at night though.
But hey, i always wanted one of those kids who could just crash out anywhere!
Things change with you so quickly, and this too shall pass...

You are a world traveller now, with your own passport that actually has stamps!
And you've been on more planes than a lot of adults i know.
I love that i have been able to take you so many places, and hope i can show you how magical the world can be!

There is so much to see and do and so many places to be!
I like to just follow you around.  For the most part you don't get into anything too bad,
but you do like to play in the toilet and in the houseplants.
That's okay too, though kinda gross and dirty.
Explore away my little friend.

You have started hauling around your little snuggie everywhere you go.
I really didn't think you'd be one of those guys, but yet again you have surprised me!
You walk around in your diaper (because you are eleven thousand degrees all the time) sucking your thumb and
snuggling with whinny the pooh. hard to believe, but you are still so cute!

We laugh and play so much!
I have so much fun with you and am so happy i get to stay at home with you and watch you grow.
Best choice ever : )

Now go to sleep!!!   heh heh ; 0

Love, mom.

One Icy Morning

It feels kind of weird posting this today, as it is pouring down rain and all the snow is gone,
and because i'm going to post some pictures from warm sunny Mexico later this week!
But the weekend was snowy and icy and beautiful....

I love it when winter is all snowy and cold, the way winter is supposed to be!

Betcha didn't even know....

...that i was gone!

We just got back from the warm sunny beaches of Mexico, only to discover how cold Canada really is ; )
I'll share lots of photos next week!

Have a great weekend!

Finding Inspiration

While I'm away, i decided i would share a post i wrote a long time ago for another blog,
simply because i like it and want to share it with you guys : )
And i think things like this are important in keeping things fresh and sharp.

Inspiration and Creativity are two of my great friends in life, and without them around I think the world would be a pretty grey and boring place.
Inspiration can be fickle, and can be often be tough to find.
But without it our creativity fades away, and we are left bored on the couch with nothing to show.
So here are a few ways to get inspired and keep that creative spirit alive....

Get outside!

Photobucket

Nature is inspiring as well as awe inspiring.
I have done so many neat things with stuff I find in the backyard, on the beach, in the woods, you get the idea.  Not to mention the photography opportunities! Nature provides the most beautiful subjects, backgrounds and the perfect lighting conditions. Go. Right now.
Actually wait!  Go after you've finished reading this : )

Hoard stuff.  Then make something with it.

I have the weirdest collections of things, from felt to shells to rocks to toilet paper rolls.
Yep, tp rolls.  You'd be amazed what you can do when you surround yourself with supplies.
The hubs calls it junk, (well he's smart enough not to say it out loud, but i know what he's thinking),
but he has no idea that i can just look at a pile of branches and sea shells and see art.

Take a camera with you wherever you go.

If you have it, you'll use it.
Between the two of us we have something like 6 cameras, and there's always one
around when there's something amazing to shoot.

Photobucket

So get inspired.
  Read blogs, books, magazines.
Watch HGTV, check out pinterest, go for a walk.
Go to other photog's websites, enter photo contests like the ones Kate does here.
Try a new effect, shoot in manual, or experiment with lighting.
Make something out of nothing.
Create something amazing!

Artsy is NOT Fartsy v10

This past Christmas was a Christmas of home-made gifts,
both to save money and because i think anything homemade is better than what you'll find in a store.
And um, 'cause i like to make stuff...

Using a few things i already had in my craft hoard supply,
I made this neat shadowbox for my brother and his girlfriend out west:

Since they don't have things like oceans and sea glass and whales and lighthouses on the prairies,
i thought i would send a little east coast their way...

I simply painted a plain old shadow box that i got at the dollar store white,
added a pretty blue paper background, and glued on some sea glass / sea porcelain -
although i did have to paint that one piece red.

I think i might just have to make one for myself : )

A Family Photo Adventure

When my friend Lindsay Doyle contacted me to do a family photo shoot for her,
I was floored!  She is an accomplished photog in my area, and I was extremely flattered.
When it was decided we would do a trade and she would do our photos,
I was so excited!  I have never been on the other side of the camera before, and it was such a great day...

We all braved the cold and spent a super fun hour in the village of Peggy's Cove....

They turned out so beautifully!
I loved the whole experience, and definitely learned so much from her. Thank you Lindsay!
( Be sure to check out her blog too, she's got some of the chubbiest cheeks around to photograph! )
And watch next week, I'll post the photos i did of her and her handsome men!

( All photos were taken by Lindsay, but i did all the editing )
