Week #26

This just screams summer to me!

Sh*% happens when you're not paying attention.

So yesterday i had a moment.

One of those holyshiticantbelieveit moments.

You know, when you aren't paying attention and all of a sudden something amazing has happened

and you almost missed the whole friggin thing. and of course there isn't a camera to be found

 I was hanging out with the Little bit upstairs

He was playing with his toys and i was sitting on the carpet next to him having an Artsy is NOT fartsy moment 

(more on that next week - it's been a while, i know...) 

So anyways, i was RIGHT next to him, but not really paying attention to him (boo, hiss)

I glance over at him and he was Standing UP.  

He looked over his shoulder at me with this smug look too, it was like he knew he was all that shit and a bag of chips.

And then.. my head fell off.....

Tasty Tuesday? Because we can't be trendy all the time...

After a disappointing (read crappy) spring where the rains never ended and the temperatures barely 

rose to normal heights, summer seems to finally have reached the Maritimes.

Time for bbq's, smores and salads.  In no particular order : )

BB (before babe) i used to go to the farmers market often, and the spring and summer it was always 

busting with fresh goodness from all of the amazing farms in the region.

These days we don't get out so much, 

but fortunately our local grocery store carries some local products, 

and we can get yummy strawberries!

Strawberry Salad w/ the best vinaigrette EVER

The ingredients are simple and can be whatever you want:

i used strawberries, almonds, spinach, red onion and i think i put goat cheese on it too, or feta.  

If i didn't i certainly should have! 

Maple Balsamic Dressing:

1/4 cup balsamic vinegar

2 tbsp. maple syrup

1 tsp. dijon mustard

s & p to taste

1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil

The recipe says to put everything but oil into a blender, then slowly 

add the oil in a steady stream with the motor running.  

Pshaw i say, put it in a bowl and whisk.  But that's just me, i HATE dishes. 

(yes, i do have a dishwasher, i think it's a lingering pet peeve from my dishes-heaped-in-the-sink days....)

This dressing is so friggin good. And easy. like sunday morning used to be before it became 

just another day around the way with the babes.

Seriously, you should try it.

Think apples, walnuts, cheddar, dried cranberries, candied pecans, fancy greens, pears, pinenuts.......

Eight

The Little Bit is 8 months old today.

 He has come so far and learned so much already!

Just last night i watched him pull himself up in his crib to grin up at me over the rails.

( note to self - lower crib mattress )

He is eating everything i've thrown at him, sometimes sleeping through the night,

and growing out of all his clothes again - thank god for thrift stores!

He loves his toys, and will sit by himself and play long enough for me to actually accomplish things, 

can i get a hallelujah?!

(k, did you guys know that there's a 'j' in hallelujah?  

it took me like, 23 tries to get spellchecker to tell me how to spell it.)

I am astounded when i think that he still has spent more time on the inside than out.

Sounds like he did some hard time in prison when you put it like that hey ; )

But with those overalls on i wouldn't doubt it - it's his hillbilly-working-on-my-moonshine look.

So things are gunna get crazy around here soon, still waiting for the crawling and walking to happen.
No rush little dude, no rush...

PB is my friend

If you don't like peanut butter, you're weird.  or allergic. in which case i am sorry for you.

But i LOVE the stuff.

Along with fro-yo, chocolate and coffee, i have it every. single. day.

pb on toast. sometimes with jam, sometimes not. 

I saw this peanut butter and jam candy bar the other day and my head damn near fell off:

Then i found out there's a national pb day.  

Okay, so i know that 'national' probably doesn't include us Canucks, 

and it's long past (january 24th), but i don't care, next year i am sooooo celebrating.

But, have you ever dropped the peanut butter jar? 

Yeah, all 1.459382 kilos of it.  on. the. floor.  (at least they're not made of glass these days) 

Surprisingly the velocity and the sheer weight didn't bust the jar too badly,

and much to the hannah dog's dismay hardly any got on the floor.

The shitty part was decanting the rest of it.  yes. my peanut butter is decanted, like fine wine.

'cause that's just how i roll.

But finally my weird obsession with hoarding glass jars has really paid off,

and now my copious amount of pb resides in a humungo glass jar.

Yeah. i did just write an entire post about peanut butter.

Now go make something delicious!!

My patience sucks too kid, and i'd get pissed if someone kept putting crap on my head
and telling me to smile too. I told him not to worry about it.

There's even more, this kid's wardrobe and accessories are endless.
It's utterly ridiculous and totally rad at the same time.
I just wish he'd stop growing so he can wear some of it more than once,
and i'd like him to be small and cute and cuddly forever.

Week #23

All by himself.

Five For Friday

Where the hell did that week go?
It still amazes me that i can spend a week doing nothing but the basics like
caring for the little, grocery shopping, house work, etc., and have it go by so incredibly fast...
Now that summer's here and he's getting bigger we are able to do more too,
which makes the days fly by.

This weekend....
we're going on a road trip with nanny b and aunty s,
grilling steaks and eating salads, and maybe drinking beer,
blowing bubbles, treasure hunting (aka yard sailing), and just soaking up the sun.
I saw a wikid looking recipe for frozen mocha popsicles too....
hmmm, those might have to happen.


Aannddd... here's the stuff i'm crazy for this week:
(besides chocolate of course, which is an all the time affair)

- Summertime!

- A brand spanking new jar of peanut butter.
Now, i know i've said this before, but it's one of those things that every time it happens
my heart does a little extra pitter patter.  Sad but true

- Weekly playgroup : )

- Rick Astley. 

 'cause he's never gunna give me up, let me down, run around, desert me, make me cry 

say goodbye, tell a lie or hurt me. 

- The new cuddly Jake.  He actually sits still for entire minutes at a time,
and lets me love him for all of those extra seconds

And then there's this coffee cup gone wild,
this sign that says it all,
and this ridiculously hilarious onsie too.

The Shopping Monster

All of this STUFF just followed me home the other day...

While I can honestly say i was not alone in this shopping madness,

i have to also tell you that there was actually (alot) more on the kitchen table too.

Seriously, who does this?!?

In our defence i can only say that it was raining.

I have no idea why that matters, but it's the only excuse that i can come up with.

It's sheer insanity, but dammit, i'll happily reside in the madness,
and i WILL shop again : )
